Rep. Pihos Awards Organizations with Art Council Grants

(Posted 02/20/2008) - Glen Ellyn, IL…State Representative Sandra Pihos (R-Glen Ellyn) along with the Illinois Arts Council awarded several arts organizations in DuPage County with almost $95,000 in grants to assist them with organizational and operating support. These organizations made application to a competitive grant program to earn these awards.

“These organizations do phenomenal work that benefits a wide range of people who participate and attend these programs,” Pihos said. “I have always encouraged the education and support of these groups because I believe the arts play a significant part in the cultural growth of people.”

The organizations that received grants include:

  • McAninch Center $41,580
  • WDCB Public Radio at COD $18,722
  • Morton Arboretum $11,110
  • Downers Grove Choral Society $1,170
  • Downers Grove Concert Association $2,980
  • Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus $13,640
  • Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale $1,100
  • Illinois Norsk Rosmalers Association $1,820
  • Advent Chamber Orchestra $500
  • Nrithyalaya $2,270

Representatives from each organization are invited to a check presentation ceremony that will take place February 25 at the College of DuPage. Most grants awarded were for various initiatives including: general operational support, basic operations, exhibit support, performances, classes, special art showcases, music education and more.

“I’m very pleased that we can work with the Illinois Arts Council to continue supporting efforts provided by these dedicated organizations,” Pihos said. “It is important that we encourage these art endeavors and allow this type of culture to flourish in our local communities. The benefits are endless for both young and old alike.
