Capital Funding to Improve Infrastructure, Reduce Potholes in 42nd District
(Posted 4/19/09) - As you travel the roadways through DuPage County and District 42, I am certain you have often found yourself dodging potholes that are seemingly large enough to consume your vehicle. This winter has been particularly harsh with numerous freeze and thaw cycles resulting in further deterioration of the already crumbling roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure. Temporary patching done by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and other local communities was only meant to address the potholes on a temporary basis until a more permanent fix could be implemented during the upcoming Spring and Summer seasons.
My office has been strongly advocating for road improvements directly in the boundaries of House District 42. I am pleased to report that with the influx of Capital funding being released for transportation and roadway projects, we have been able to capture some of that funding and my constituents should soon begin to see improvements on many of the roads within the district. While traffic congestion due to road construction is seldom a welcomed event, I think we can all agree that improving the condition of our roads is long overdue and badly needed!
You may be curious as to where your tax dollars will be spent and how it impacts you and your family. I thought you might find interesting the following list which is a breakdown of Illinois State Highways, under the jurisdiction of IDOT, and pending work to be completed. Please keep in mind this does not include work being done on local roadways by local cities, villages and townships.
Butterfield Road from Route 53 east to I-355 will undergo repaving/resurfacing beginning in June. This should eliminate the worst stretch of roadway.
Roosevelt Road from Nicole Way to I-355 will undergo concrete patching in targeted areas where needed. An exact date has not been determined but is being targeted in the June/July timeframe.
The following projects are part of the FY 2010-2015 Highway Improvement Program that has recently been approved in Springfield. While the beginning dates for construction to begin have not been established in every case, each project is targeted between the years 2010-2015. As more information is received I will pass it along to you in a future email newsletter update.
