Pihos Spearheads Free Heart Screenings for Women

(Posted 2/6/2009) - Representative Sandra Pihos is raising awareness of women's heart disease -- a deadly disease that remains the number one killer of women in the U.S -- and encourages women to obtain free screenings offered at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

In recognition of Women's Heart Disease Awareness Month, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove is hosting its Big Boomin' Heart Fair from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Main Hospital, lower level atrium.

The event will feature a variety of health screenings including cholesterol, asthma, blood pressure, pulmonary function, 3 lead EKG, and question and answer sessions with cardiologists. Participants can visit more than 30 informative booths and tour the hospital’s state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Laboratories.

The fair also will include a Kid's Activity Zone featuring cholesterol testing for children 12 years and older and pediatric asthma screenings, opportunities to meet a fireman and touch a Downers Grove Fire Department truck, experience Helicopter & Air Angels Flight Team, and other activities.

To register for free cholesterol and diabetes screenings, please call 1-800-3-ADVOCATE (1-800-323-8622).
