Representative Pihos Sponsors “Adult Spelling Bee”

I cordially invite you to attend the Annual Statewide Spelling Bee Competition for adults 50 years of age and older, that I am hosting on Thursday, June 3rd at the two locations listed below.

While participants will compete for prizes, as well as the chance to advance to the regional semifinal competition, the event is really about the opportunity to experience friendly competition, and most importantly, meet and socialize with other fun and interesting people.

Over the years I have hosted this event; I have always been amazed at the many great participants who compete and their sharp and accomplished spelling skills. I am sure this year will be the same and I strongly encourage all citizens to participate.

The winners of these events will be afforded the opportunity to advance to the regional semifinals, to be held at the Addison Park District in Addison, Illinois on July 11, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Finalists of the semifinals competition will then compete in the state finals which will be held at the 2010 Illinois State Fair in Springfield Illinois on Senior Day, Monday August 16th, 2010. Refreshments and prizes will be available at both locations on June 3rd. The event details are as follows:

Event #1 Hosted by Representative Pihos
When: Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 at 9:30am
Where: Peace Memorial Manor, 3737 Highland Ave, Downers Grove, IL
Located behind Good Samaritan Hospital

Event #2 - Co-Hosted by Representative Pihos and Senator Cronin
When: Thursday June 3rd, 2010 at 1:00pm
Where: York Township Senior Center, 1502 S. Meyers Rd., Lombard, IL

The guidelines of the event are as follows.
1. Contest is open to anyone age 50 and over
2. Each participant is encouraged to pre register at the location or by calling Representative Pihos at 630-858-8855
3. Order of contestants will be randomly selected
4. A practice round will be held first so everyone is familiar with the rules
5. Contestants must begin spelling the word within 60 seconds after the pronouncer gives the word.
6. All rules will be clearly defined at the event
7. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive a prize
